Databricks moved 1,300 dashboards to an AI/BI platform in five months and got 5x faster results, per Knowi.
Why now: As of July 13, ThoughtSpot's Spotter is shipping and Databricks' migration is already finished, not roadmap talk.
ThoughtSpot rebranded its entire product as an autonomous agent called Spotter, per Knowi. Ask a question and the agent finds the data, writes the query, runs it, and explains what it found.
This hits the Tableau, Looker, and Mode workflow directly: build a report, format it, ship it, maintain it. If an agent can answer the question a dashboard was built to answer, the dashboard was the slow path the whole time. The value shifts from the visualization layer to the reasoning layer, the part that decides which query answers your question.
Databricks already ran that experiment. It migrated 1,300 dashboards to its AI/BI platform in five months and saw performance improve 5x, per Knowi's writeup. Google sees the same shift: Looker is adding what Knowi calls BI Agents, aimed at triggering downstream actions instead of rendering a chart.
What Knowi's post doesn't cover is accuracy: how often Spotter or Databricks' AI/BI writes a wrong query with a confident explanation attached. That's the number that decides whether this replaces dashboards or just adds a chat box next to them. Watch whether ThoughtSpot or Databricks publishes a query-accuracy figure in the coming months.
