Sam Altman says Sol demand is insane. He expects hiccups soon, per Axios. He credited "heroic work" from the inference team but stopped short of promising smooth service. The warning landed the same week Microsoft made Sol the preferred model inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. That means the model is now absorbing Copilot's traffic load right as its own CEO warns of instability.
Axios doesn't say whether the hiccups Altman means are rate-limit throttling, latency spikes, or outright downtime. That gap matters if you're deciding how much to trust Sol with work nobody's watching.
If you're running long agent chains on Sol, wire in a fallback model and handle rate-limit turbulence gracefully. A capacity failure on an unattended agent doesn't fail softly. It just stops. Or it retries straight into more rate limits.
