WhatsApp's Business API returned success on message sends that were actually dropped or delayed, according to a Reddit account from a CRM builder. That kind of failure is expensive because there's nothing to catch, no error to log or retry, just a false green light while messages disappear.
The CRM logic, by the builder's own estimate, was 80% of the total build. The other 20%, the WhatsApp integration, cost more debugging time than the rest combined, per the same account. A normal API error gets logged and retried; a false success sends you debugging the wrong layer of code instead, for weeks.
This kind of failure is worse for anything agent-driven than for a human-run operation. A person watching a dashboard might eventually notice replies have stopped coming in. An agent has no such instinct: it reads a success response and moves on. Onboarding sequences, follow-ups, and support escalations can all quietly stop firing, and the logs won't tell you why.
Nothing in the account explains how the builder eventually caught the problem, or whether WhatsApp ever acknowledged it. That's the detail I'd want most. Without a documented trigger, anyone hitting the same wall has no pattern to search for, only the same weeks of confusion.
