Agent toolkit pi passes 79,000 stars on GitHub

pi added 5,751 stars in the week ending July 27, pushing the open-source agent toolkit past 79,000 total.

Most agent skill ecosystems ship with no lockfiles, no signatures, and no scanning. That's the gap pi is pitching itself into.

pi ships as four MIT-licensed packages. One is a unified API for multiple LLM providers, paired with a pi-agent-core runtime for tool calling and state management. The other two are pi-tui, a terminal renderer, and the pi-coding-agent CLI that ties them together.

earendil-works put pinned dependencies, verified lockfiles, and containerized sandboxing front and center instead of the feature list. Those are usually what teams bolt on after a framework becomes a target, not what leads a README.

If pi's growth holds, supply-chain hygiene is becoming a real differentiator for agent frameworks, not a nicety buried in the docs. Watch whether competing frameworks start bolting on lockfiles and sandboxing over the next few months, since most ship without either.
