Managing partner Amit Chaturvedy says AI's grid demand could run 100 to 1,000 times higher than EV charging ever did.

Buildings, power and electrification gear cap AI's growth more than chips or models do, according to SE Ventures managing partner Amit Chaturvedy.
Chaturvedy says the pattern holds across his portfolio's 8 unicorns, and the stakes are physical, not digital. He puts AI's demand on the grid at 100 to 1,000 times what utilities saw when electric vehicles needed charging.

Chaturvedy's read cuts against how most AI and SaaS builders think about scaling. Compute allocation and model access dominate the conversation. Grid capacity is what actually caps growth, in his account.
For SaaS builders, the read-through is on pricing. Seat pricing never had to track what a feature costs to run.
Outcome-based and usage-based pricing, the model most AI builders are converging on, tracks compute directly. That compute runs on electricity, and Chaturvedy says the grid can't easily supply more of it.
