On July 31 Cursor removed the Spend metric and Cost column for individual and Teams self-serve plans. The CSV export keeps the column but returns $0.00 for every row including historical on-demand charges you actually paid, and the API's chargedCents and usageBasedCosts fields now return zero retroactively. Kevin Neilson explained it as confusion-avoidance: the dollar amounts were often higher than the plan cost because included usage was counted. 326 points and 148 comments on HN in 20 hours, with developers pointing out they used per-request cost to decide which model to route work to. If you built a cost dashboard on those fields, your telemetry broke silently. That's the worse failure.

Gergely Orosz published the first serious look at what AI coding actually costs at scale, and the numbers are wild. The Pragmatic Engineer covers "tokenmaxxing," a trend where engineers compete on AI token consumption leaderboards. At Meta, one engineer averaged 281 billion to...
Cursor stopped being an IDE wrapper and became a model company. Cursor shipped Composer 2, a proprietary coding model trained via reinforcement learning on long-horizon coding tasks. On CursorBench — their own benchmark, caveats acknowledged — it scores 61.3, beating Claude Op...
NVIDIA's Blackwell successor is in production ahead of schedule. The NVL72 rack (72 GPUs) delivers 3.6 exaFLOPS for inference, with 288GB HBM4 per GPU. NVIDIA claims 10x lower cost-per-token versus Blackwell. The Rubin CPX variant — purpose-built for million-token inference —...
Origin rolled out Aug 17 in early beta on all paid plans: repo hosting with bidirectional real-time PR comment sync against GitHub (which stays source of truth for synced repos), plus native Vercel, Depot, and Buildkite integrations. Cursor says deeper agent-native features ar...
Triple-stream retrieval (BM25 keyword, vector embeddings, knowledge-graph traversal) fused via Reciprocal Rank Fusion on the iii engine, with SQLite for state and an in-memory vector index, no external database. The economic claim: ~170K tokens/year (~$10) versus ~650K tokens...
Bugbot now finds ~10% more bugs per review (0.62 vs 0.56) at ~22% lower cost per run. A new /review flow runs Bugbot and Security Review before push, dedups against the eventual PR, and supports incremental "only what's new" review. Cursor also added always-on Automations with...
