Setting document.designMode to 'on' in the browser console makes any generated HTML artifact editable, though saving still means copying it out by hand.
Why now: The workaround is part of Claude community discussion covered in the August 3, 2026 roundup, with no accompanying feature update from Anthropic.
Redditors are editing Claude-generated HTML documents by running one console command, per r/ClaudeAI.
Claude often hands back long documents as standalone HTML files, and fixing a typo normally means asking the model to regenerate the whole thing. A tip upvoted 50 times on r/ClaudeAI skips that step entirely.
Open the HTML file in a browser, open the developer console, and set document.designMode to 'on'. Every element on the page becomes editable, close to a basic word processor.
That one line turns the page into an editable canvas. Click text to change it, toggle bold, or delete an element, all inside the browser instead of a round trip back through the model.
The post doesn't mention export. Saving the result still means copying the edited HTML back out by hand.
For now, this is what filling that gap looks like: a copy-paste console command traded between users instead of a menu option in the product.
