Flowise Shuts Down and Blames Coding Agents

Flowise is shutting down its open-source agent-builder project. The team says coding agents like Claude Code made its drag-and-drop canvas obsolete, per its sunset notice.

The real stakes land on anyone running it in production, especially on Flowise Cloud: the notice gives no migration or export guidance. Anyone still on the hosted version should assume nobody's coming to help after the archive date.

The code freeze hits July 29, the repository archives August 10, and the core team is gone by August 31. Flowise carried 55,186 stars and 24,850 forks under an Apache-2.0 license, with real production deployments behind it.

I've built on drag-and-drop agent canvases before. They work fine for a demo. By day 40 you need a conditional branch the node graph can't express, so you write a custom TypeScript node anyway. Now you're paying for the canvas and the code both.

The same week, GitHub deprecated Spark, its own agent-building platform. No new users or apps as of August 4, and an export deadline of August 31. The llm() inference backend already went dead July 30, when GitHub Models retired. GitHub's stated reason matches Flowise's, per its changelog post: builders moved to Copilot in VS Code, Copilot CLI, and the Copilot app.

Two companies, two business models, the same conclusion inside 48 hours. If you're keeping Flowise running, fork the repo before August 10. It stays live for forks, but npm and Docker Hub support won't.

None of it mattered once a general-purpose agent got good enough to write the glue code directly. The stars, the license, the working business: distribution didn't save it, and neither did community.
