The self-serve tier lands a year after Recall's $38M Series B, pricing out startups that sell meeting capture as their whole product.
Why now: Recall's self-serve tier landed at number 6 on Hacker News on Aug. 17, with 107 upvotes.
Recall.ai opened a self-serve pricing tier on Aug. 17 at fifty cents per recording hour, with no sales call required, per the company's pricing page. Any team still planning to sell meeting capture as its core product now competes with a credit-card signup and a fifty-cent API call.
The API covers Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams, plus in-person audio, through meeting-bot, desktop, and mobile SDKs. The post landed at number 6 on Hacker News with 107 upvotes on its launch day.
A $38 million Series B closed for Recall in September 2025, months before this tier shipped. Landing self-serve pricing after a raise like that reads as a bet on volume over enterprise sales cycles, at least for the entry tier.
The real losers aren't future notetakers: teams already burning months on their own Zoom bot instead of buying capture at fifty cents an hour. The pricing page doesn't say what happens to usage past the proof-of-concept stage, or where the tier caps out.
