Someone spent $266.15 rooting a $114 Fire tablet after Claude's safeguards cut him off, per his account of the project. He'd already paid for Claude Max, and the refusal added $266.15 and three more AI subscriptions to a five-month job.

The tablet had been shutting itself down and rebooting on its own, and tracing the cause took five months. It came down to three protected Amazon packages holding REBOOT and SHUTDOWN permissions that couldn't be disabled without root. The device had no published root method to start from.
