It's off by default and only on iOS, where Firefox can't lean on the extensions it uses everywhere else.

Mozilla built a native ad blocker into Firefox for iOS, per Mozilla's announcement posted September 1. It blocks third-party ads and trackers before they load. iOS Firefox never had that option before, because Apple doesn't let iOS browsers run extensions the way desktop browsers do.
The blocking runs on Apple's WebKit Content Blocker API, matched against the EasyList filter list.
It leaves first-party ads, search ads, and Mozilla's own sponsored new-tab content untouched. That keeps Mozilla's own revenue lines out of the blocking rules. It also ships off by default, tucked under Settings, Browsing, Ad Blocker until someone switches it on.
Google finished pulling Manifest V2 support the same week, though Mozilla's post doesn't connect the two changes. It also doesn't say why the feature starts turned off, or whether that changes later.
