The release moves AI agents into a dedicated Agent Host process separate from the extension host, so sessions survive window closures and multiple windows can attach to one session. Microsoft is publishing the protocol openly, letting third-party harnesses including the Copilot SDK and Claude Agent SDK plug into a unified interface. It also adds remote agent execution over SSH and dev tunnels, multi-root workspace support, and a preview Agent Merge feature driving a pull request to green by addressing review feedback, fixing conflicts and rerunning workflows. An editor vendor publishing the agent interface rather than owning it is the move I didn't expect from Microsoft here.

Shipped August 12 on the Agent Host Protocol: the same agent session attaches from multiple VS Code windows, and the model picker exposes both Anthropic and Copilot options, switchable between turns and billed to the respective service. An experimental chat.agentHost.allowSign...
Released July 16, the agent host runs coding agents (Copilot, Claude, Codex) in their own process via a new Agent Host Protocol, so a session lives independently and renders across multiple windows. Agents can list sessions, read conversations, spawn sub-task sessions, and sen...
A spec is a press release until someone who didn't write it implements it. GitHub made Agent Plugins 1.0 generally available on August 12 across VS Code, Copilot CLI, the Copilot SDK, and the Copilot app on all plans. The spec, published August 6, was co-authored by AWS, Anysp...
Microsoft shipped VS Code 1.110 with agent plugins (bundled skills + MCP servers + hooks), native browser interaction for UI validation, persistent session memory across workflows, /fork for parallel conversation branching, and a new Agent Debug panel showing system prompts, t...
Launched August 4, running in Ghostty, iTerm2, VS Code, Windows Terminal or Mac Terminal. The architecture is the differentiator: a tmux-like indirection layer between agent and shell that keeps sessions persistent across directory changes, drives full-screen apps like vim and...
Microsoft and GitHub disabled the repos, many of them Azure and AI developer tools, after attackers injected malware that harvests credentials the moment a repo is opened in Claude Code, Gemini CLI, or VS Code. Miasma is built on the open-sourced Mini Shai-Hulud codebase from...
