Jeff Dean's Discovery Loop seeks $50 billion valuation

Discovery Loop is seeking a $50 billion valuation, according to Business Insider.

That's five times the roughly $10 billion figure tied to talks for a $1 billion raise only weeks earlier. The startup still has no commercial product to point to. The report doesn't say who's leading the round or whether the terms are locked in.

Jeff Dean, the former Google chief scientist, cofounded the company with Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le and Oriol Vinyals, all veterans of Google's AI research work. Discovery Loop pitches automated systems that run massive parallel scientific experiments, aimed at compressing research timelines that normally stretch for years.

No product, no revenue, no customers named. What's on offer is four resumes and the assumption that Google's research reputation transfers straight into venture pricing. If Discovery Loop closes anywhere near $50 billion, that assumption becomes the going rate for founder pedigree in AI. Other labs with well-known names attached will start asking for the same multiple.
