CXMT reached the node with quadruple patterning since ASML's EUV remains export-denied, and output rose over 50%.
Why now: CXMT put the new node into mass production and disclosed the details at the World Manufacturing Conference on September 20.
CXMT put its fifth-generation DRAM into mass production without EUV lithography, the company said at the World Manufacturing Conference on September 20, per Seoul Economic Daily. Eastern Herald puts the resulting global DRAM share at 10%, which would be the first time in over a decade that Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron held under 90% of the market between them. That share figure comes from Eastern Herald alone; Seoul Economic Daily's account of the production milestone doesn't include a market-share number.
The new chip reaches an 11.95nm memory-array half-pitch with a 45:1 capacitor aspect ratio. Quadruple patterning got CXMT there, since ASML EUV remains export-denied. Wafer output on the node rose more than 50% over the prior generation.
24GB LPDDR5X modules off the new line are already going into flagship phones.
Quadruple patterning is slower and more expensive per wafer than EUV, run through the lithography step four times instead of once. CXMT closing in on a 45:1 aspect ratio anyway means the process gap between it and the EUV-equipped incumbents is narrower than the export ban was supposed to guarantee.
The open question is whether the 10% figure survives scrutiny from anyone besides Eastern Herald. If a second outlet confirms it, or if Samsung, SK Hynix or Micron respond with their own share numbers, that will settle whether 2026 is the year the DRAM market stopped being a closed club of three.

Reports surfacing August 7 say Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron have sold their entire 2027 allocation for both DRAM and HBM. Consumer impact is already visible: 32GB DDR5 kits are well over $400 versus roughly $100 in September 2025, a 4x move after DRAM contract prices jumped 50...
Echo Dot went $49.99 to $79.99, Echo Show 21 from $400 to $500, Fire TV Stick 4K Max from $60 to $85 over the weekend of August 23, with Amazon saying it absorbed component increases as long as it could (TechCrunch). The upstream cause is Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron redirecti...
Dario Amodei published "We Must Pace the Frontier" on September 12. Altman and Musk agreed within hours. Hassabis called the direction correct. By Monday morning the market had priced it. Nasdaq 100 futures fell 1.5% and S&P 500 futures 0.8%. Nvidia dropped 3%, AMD 5.7%, and A...
In its Q3 FY2026 earnings ($82.9B revenue, +18%), Microsoft disclosed something more important than the revenue number: a structural shift in how software gets sold. The company's AI business crossed $37B annual run rate, up 123% year-over-year. But the real signal is the pric...
Internal survey data shows 81.5% of foundry staff and nearly 50% of the broader semiconductor division intending to leave within two years. The cause is bonus structure tied to division P&L: SK Hynix paid roughly $476,000 per employee, Samsung's memory division ~$400,000, and...
At Hot Chips 2026 Samsung presented multiply-accumulate units inside the DRAM banks while staying compatible with standard memory controllers. 1.2 TOPS INT8/FP8 per chip, doubling to 2.4 at 4-bit weights, which is exactly where memory-bound local LLM decode would benefit. The...
