Codex PR #47936 adds mcp_servers.<name>.tool_input_schema_max_bytes (5,000-byte default) and features.code_mode.tool_input_schema_max_bytes (16,000-byte default). Before this, fixed budgets stripped parameter descriptions from large MCP tools or rendered their Code Mode input types as unknown. Claude Code made its 2,048-character MCP description cap configurable two days earlier. If your MCP tool has been mysteriously misused by agents, a silently truncated schema is now a thing you can rule out.
