A setting separate from the one people already disabled writes a claude.ai link into every commit and PR since v2.1.179.
Why now: The pattern surfaced as a 270-upvote r/ClaudeAI thread with four open GitHub issues behind it.
Claude Code writes a claude.ai session link into every commit and PR, per a 270-upvote r/ClaudeAI thread. The four GitHub issues tracking the pattern agree the link isn't publicly resolvable, so nothing leaks. What sticks around is a permanent, unclickable line in every commit message and pull request for as long as the repository exists. It's been on by default since v2.1.179.
The setting responsible is attribution.sessionUrl, not attribution.commit. A lot of people already disabled attribution, assuming one flag covered both. It didn't. Turning off attribution.commit doesn't touch attribution.sessionUrl. It keeps writing session links into web and Remote Control sessions regardless.
Four separate GitHub issues on anthropics/claude-code back up the report: #41873, #66504, #69614, #76899. The two most recent ones ask Anthropic to make the behavior opt-in. Both point out that the documentation never lists attribution.sessionUrl as a setting at all.
The fix is a two-line addition to settings.json:

Nothing in the thread or the open issues says whether Anthropic has changed the default yet.
