Over 11,000 lines of dead code were removed in the process. The author is upfront that it is 'nowhere near ready for production' — tests were imported from Rust-era Bun and many still fail — with drop-in parity as the stated goal. The 284-point Hacker News thread is less about JavaScript runtimes than about a pattern worth watching: when a project rewrites in a new language, the pre-rewrite tree becomes a viable fork point for people who preferred the old one.
