Nutlope's Hallmark climbed to number 2 on GitHub Trending on July 15 and passed 11,100 stars two days later, per the project's GitHub page.
It's a skill for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex that turns design taste into a gated, checkable layer instead of a prompt line. That matters for anyone using these tools to ship interfaces, since taste has mostly lived in a prompt, not a test.
Twenty design themes. Four commands, build, audit, redesign, study, and 57 slop-test gates that output has to clear before the tool calls the work done.
I spend a lot of my own review time on code that's correct but ugly, interfaces that technically work but nobody would call finished. That's the gap Hallmark is aimed at, and it's a real one.
Whether 57 automated gates approximate design judgment is a separate question. Gate-checking taste with rules is still pattern-matching, not judgment, and the real test is whether it catches ugly work a checklist wouldn't think to flag. A fixed rule set can catch generic slop, the same rounded-corner card with the same drop shadow. I'm skeptical it catches the more specific bad calls, like a pattern that's simply wrong for the page it's on.
The GitHub page doesn't say who besides Nutlope reviewed the 57 gates, or whether they've been tested outside the twenty shipped themes.
