jazzzooo announced Buz July 24: a fork of Bun taken from the last commit before the Rust migration, rebuilt against modern Zig and achieving sub-1-second incremental compiles, with 11,000+ lines of dead code removed. The author is upfront that it's "nowhere near ready for production" — tests were imported from Rust-era Bun and many still fail — with drop-in parity as the goal. 284 points on HN, and the thread is less about JavaScript runtimes than about a pattern: when a project rewrites in a new language, the pre-rewrite tree becomes a viable fork point for whoever preferred the old one. Expect more of this as agent-driven rewrites get cheap.
