Inforcer raised a 50 million dollar round and Okta paid roughly 200 million for Permiso within the same 48 hours, both chasing the same shadow-AI question.
Why now: DepthData's July 31 launch came one day after Inforcer's July 30 raise, putting three AI-spend-visibility deals within a 48-hour span.
DepthData launched on Product Hunt on July 31 with an AI-spend tracker that won't display a figure it can't verify from a vendor API. It landed at #5 with 148 upvotes. The tool labels every number by how it was confirmed and reads only metadata, seats, usage, never prompts, per its Product Hunt listing.
Inforcer raised a $50 million Series C a day earlier, betting on shadow-AI detection for managed service providers, per tech.eu. Okta paid roughly $200 million for Permiso around the same time, folding shadow-AI detection into identity security instead of finance tooling, per that tech.eu report.
DepthData limits itself to what AI costs and who's touching it. It reads metadata instead of prompts, so it never touches what the AI actually produces. Whether Inforcer and Permiso draw the same line isn't stated. Even so, three buyer categories are now paying to watch AI spending they already fund: finance teams, managed service providers, and identity security groups. That's backed by a $50 million raise and a roughly $200 million acquisition within one week.
Watch whether DepthData, Inforcer, or Permiso ever publish a return number instead of another usage count.
