Fetching from the wire…

The 2022 startup, led by ex-FireEye executives, had raised just $29 million before this deal, a fraction of the price.
Why now: TechCrunch broke the story July 30, hours after Okta and Permiso reached the agreement.
Okta is buying Permiso for about $200 million, TechCrunch reported July 30, citing a source familiar with the deal.
The purchase brings a job long left to SIEM and CSPM tools, watching what happens after login, inside Okta itself. Permiso runs more than 2,500 detection signals across 70-plus identity partners, flagging overprivileged access, unused permissions and anomalous agent behavior in real time.
Permiso launched in 2022, founded by Paul Nguyen and Jason Martin, both former FireEye executives. It had raised only about $29 million before this deal, a fraction of what Okta is paying for it.
Watching what a credential does after login matters more than verifying it at login, especially once it belongs to an agent instead of a person. Okta paying $200 million for real-time behavioral detection means it's conceding that verifying identity stops mattering once an agent starts acting on that identity's behalf. Watch whether Okta keeps Permiso's signals as an add-on SKU or folds them into the base product. That will say whether this is a security upgrade or a pricing play.
TechCrunch attributed the $200 million figure to a source, not to Okta or Permiso, so the price isn't officially confirmed on July 30.
