Index led the seed round with Conviction, A*, and YC, betting human taste beats automated scoring for AI design tools.
Why now: TechCrunch broke the details of the raise and the revenue jump on Aug. 3, 2026.
Intelligence, the company behind DesignArena, raised a $7.9 million seed after growing from $5 million to $60 million in annual recurring revenue in six months, per TechCrunch.
Ten people run that growth curve. The bet behind it: subjective quality can't be auto-graded, so human judgment at scale becomes the verifier frontier labs now pay for.
Index led the round, joined by Conviction, A*, and YC. DesignArena has 5.3 million users across more than 190 countries voting on head-to-head pairs of AI-made designs. That voting data is the product, a judgment layer automated benchmarks can't produce on their own.
I came up in visual communications before I went full-stack. A round built on that idea, people spot good design and machines can't, matches what I've believed since I started shipping AI features. Model output still needs a human filter for craft, not just correctness, and this round says that filter already has buyers, not just believers.
The numbers come from TechCrunch's Aug. 3 report on the round.

Baseten's Series F closed June 22 led by Altimeter, Conviction, and Spark, with revenue up ~20x YoY and more than 1 billion inference calls a day across 87 clusters and 18 clouds. The model layer gets the headlines, but inference at the app layer is where this round says the m...
The private-beta personal assistant, from a small team led by an ex-Sierra research scientist and backed by Kleiner Perkins and Conviction, connects to email, messaging, calendar, device audio, location, screen, keystrokes and cursor data (TechCrunch). Its terms grant a sub-li...
TechCrunch: Greenoaks led on July 30, five months after Index led a $100M Series A. Founded by Stanford PhD Joon Sung Park, author of the "Smallville" generative-agents work. Revenue up 5x since a February 2026 launch, headcount past 50, tens of millions of simulations run for...
First interactive reasoning benchmark. Top agent (StochasticGoose) scored 12.58% vs. humans. "Intelligence is efficiency." Agents struggle to convert environmental feedback into coherent strategies. Full launch March 25. ARC Prize
TechCrunch named the phenomenon everyone's been watching: the SaaSpocalypse. February saw $285B wiped from software stocks driven by three simultaneous forces — AI agents reducing headcount (fewer seats), coding agents making build-vs-buy favor build, and AI model providers mo...
It contributed to a new $915M tranche that nearly doubles total Frontier pledges to roughly $1.8B, tying AI compute's energy footprint to durable carbon-removal purchasing. Low direct builder impact, but a marker of how frontier labs are choosing to frame their climate account...
