Anyone arguing whether AI can replace software engineers is working from press coverage of failures, not an actual count of them.
Ford rehired 350 engineers after an AI-driven push failed, per Forbes reporting the thread cited. IBM and Commonwealth Bank of Australia both reversed AI-driven layoffs, per CNBC coverage linked in the same reply.
One commenter argued the real number is higher. Other companies likely did the same thing and stayed quiet, the commenter wrote, to keep what they called the circular economy going. Publicize the adoption, skip the walkback.
