2.1.233 also fixes idle-session CPU burn on Linux and MCP stream handling, but a narrower Cygwin fix is still coming.
Why now: The revert surfaced in the release notes for Claude Code 2.1.233, covered in the August 16, 2026 briefing.
Claude Code 2.1.233 rolled back several Cygwin symlink and shell input-redirection changes that shipped in 2.1.232, per Releasebot.
A narrower version of those changes is already planned, per Releasebot, which means 2.1.233 isn't the final word on Cygwin symlink handling either. Anyone running Claude Code on Windows through Cygwin, and holding on 2.1.232 for its symlink behavior, is sitting on code the company already walked back.
The same release fixed two smaller issues: idle Claude Code sessions were burning CPU on Linux, and MCP stream handling had a bug. Both are quiet fixes, the kind that don't get their own changelog entry beyond a line item.
Anthropic is still working Cygwin support out live, in public release notes, not in a design doc first. If you pinned your team to 2.1.232 specifically for the old symlink behavior, don't treat that pin as stable. Watch for another change to symlink handling in the next few releases, not just this one revert.
All of this is new to 2.1.233, the version covered in Claude Code's latest release notes.
