Fetching from the wire…
Public story · 2026-08-17 · high
Support vendors already charge $0.50 to $2 per resolved ticket, and seat-based SaaS pricing dropped from 21% to 15% of companies in a year.
Why now: Octane's August 14 launch lands the same month all four support vendors' per-ticket rates are already public.
Octane launched an AI operating system that runs convenience stores for $1 an hour per location, on August 14, per EIN Presswire. The rate is a bid against a store payroll line, and Octane is piloting the system across 12 locations.
The system executes pricing, inventory, invoices, fuel and cash work directly. It also runs labor scheduling, loss prevention, vendor and compliance tasks, not just reporting on them.
Support software priced outcomes first, and the market has already converged on a band for one resolved ticket. HubSpot's Customer Agent charges $0.50 per conversation, cut from $1.00 in April. Intercom Fin runs $0.99, Zendesk's AI Agents land around $1.50, and Salesforce Agentforce charges $2.00 per resolved ticket, per Quickchat AI's pricing survey.
Retail operations, customer support and software pricing broadly have each swapped access-based pricing for pay-per-outcome. A Pilot study found seat-based pricing fell from 21% to 15% of SaaS companies over twelve months, while hybrid models climbed from 27% to 41%. The Pilot study doesn't say which SaaS categories are moving to hybrid pricing, so how much sits outside retail and support is unclear.
Once a vendor prices per hour or per ticket, a buyer stops comparing it to a competing subscription. They compare it to what a cashier or support rep costs to employ. Octane's $1-an-hour rate and HubSpot's cut to $0.50 both read as bids against a wage.
