Kubo, Helia, Boxo and IPFS's public gateways lose their maintainers when Shipyard's funding ends September 30.
Why now: Shipyard announced the wind-down August 24, with services shutting down September 30, about five weeks out.
Protocol Labs declined to renew funding for Shipyard, ending its IPFS engineering, maintenance and infrastructure work, the team said August 24.
Nine tools lose their dedicated maintainers as a result: Kubo, Helia, Boxo, Rainbow, IPFS Desktop, IPFS Companion, Someguy, Service Worker Gateway and IPFS Check. Six services go dark on September 30: ipfs.io, dweb.link, check.ipfs.network, delegated-ipfs.dev, the bootstrap nodes and Wikipedia's IPFS mirror.
Anyone whose site or app resolves content through those gateways needs a replacement by September 30. Five weeks separate Shipyard's August 24 announcement from the shutdown.
The funding relationship ran more than two years before Protocol Labs chose not to renew it, per Interplanetary Shipyard's announcement. The announcement doesn't say why Protocol Labs declined to renew, or name anyone stepping in to fund the maintainers and infrastructure next.
