PostHog Desktop feeds coding agents the errors, logs and session recordings it already collects on customers' apps.
Why now: PostHog Desktop went live August 26.
PostHog released PostHog Desktop on August 26, a desktop app that runs multiple coding agents at once. The agents run on Claude and GPT models, with plan mode, parallel execution, MCP servers and a skill marketplace.
The stakes split two ways. Coding-agent tools don't have PostHog's telemetry. Analytics vendors like Mixpanel have telemetry but haven't built agents on top of it. PostHog is doing both.
PostHog points its coding agents at the production signals it already collects: in-app activity, logs, errors, payment events and session recordings. An agent chasing a bug can read the error logs and session replays from users who hit it, then open a PR.
That's a bet that owning a product's error logs and session recordings beats working from a blank editor. PostHog is picking a fight with Cursor rather than staying in Mixpanel's lane. The logic holds: an agent that can see which users hit a bug, and how, should out-diagnose one working from a ticket alone.
What the launch doesn't settle is execution. Whether the agents produce a mergeable PR instead of noise is something only real teams running this on their own repos will show.
