Fetching from the wire…

Its edge over Khan Academy isn't cost, it's that lectures written as instructions can be edited and re-rendered as material changes.
Why now: Academa launched on Show HN on August 30, 2026.
Academa launched on Show HN August 30, compiling video lectures from written instructions instead of recording someone at a whiteboard.
Academa's comparison set is Khan Academy, Coursera and MIT OCW, three catalogs built entirely on recorded video that can't be revised once filmed. Its catalog already runs 66+ lectures across seven subjects: computer science, math, physics, engineering, machine learning, economics and statistics.
Academa writes each lecture as instructions: what to say, what to draw, what to animate. Those instructions compile into video with text-to-speech and computer graphics, and editing the script means re-rendering instead of re-shooting. A custom lecture, generated fresh from a prompt, takes about 25 minutes.
That 25-minute number reads like a demo capability, not a claim about how often the full catalog gets revised.
For education tooling, lecture content becomes a build artifact that gets rebuilt on demand, the same relationship code has to a compiled binary rather than a saved recording.
