hermes-agent carries 25,617 open pull requests against 13,021 open issues, a ratio no other agent framework on this beat comes close to.
Why now: Nous Research's repo carried this backlog as of September 2.
Nous Research's hermes-agent has 25,617 open pull requests against 13,021 open issues, almost two PRs for every complaint filed. That flips the usual maintainer problem, where issues pile up faster than anyone volunteers to fix them.
Compare that to ruvnet/ruflo, another large agent meta-harness, which splits 289 open pull requests against 604 open issues at 70,203 stars. Ruflo carries far more stars but a normal issue-heavy backlog. Hermes-agent has a fraction of that star count and a backlog dominated by unmerged work.
Star count and recent commits don't show this gap. For anyone picking a framework to build on, the open PR count signals whether outside contributions land better than star count does.
What the numbers don't say is why. There's no breakdown of how old those PRs are, how many are duplicates, or whether Nous Research runs a review process at all. A backlog that size could mean a project overwhelmed by generosity, or one that's stopped merging.
