Pydantic AI adds a ChatGPT subscription auth provider

Pydantic AI's 2.41.0 release adds a new provider, openai-codex, that authenticates against a ChatGPT or Codex subscription instead of a metered API key, per the v2.41.0 release notes. For a solo builder, that means pointing agent calls at a subscription they already pay for. No extra billing account needed just to run agents.

The same release adds direct image generation through a new ImageGenerator class, and deprecates fallback_model in favor of fallback_subagent_model.

A separate fix carries more weight for anyone running Pydantic AI in production. The web-search pricing fix makes the framework report Anthropic's native web search calls inside RequestUsage.details, then price them into total cost.

Every cost figure Pydantic AI produced for an Anthropic agent using built-in web search was too low before this fix. The search calls weren't being priced at all.

Anyone who set a budget alert or usage cap off those numbers for a search-heavy Anthropic agent has been working from an undercount. The release notes don't say how far back the gap goes or how large the miss typically was, only that this release fixes it.
