A waiting room for Claude Code sessions got 876 upvotes

A developer built a chatroom for people who have nothing to do but wait on Claude Code to finish. Rooftop.chat is a virtual lounge where you sit while an agent runs, and its creator posted it to r/ClaudeAI, where it picked up 876 upvotes.

The creator's own description names the mechanism. Output went up, but the job turned into staring at terminals waiting for them to finish. That's not a complaint about the tool failing. It's a complaint about what happens when the tool works.

Rooftop isn't alone. antimatter15/vibechat and slashvibe.dev are the same idea, built separately. Three teams reaching the same product without coordinating isn't a fad. It's three people hitting the same gap in their day and building the same fix.

The gap looks like this in practice. Delegating a task to an agent used to mean walking away and coming back. Now it means sitting there, because the run might need a follow-up prompt, might fail halfway, might finish in ninety seconds. That in-between state doesn't fit deep work and doesn't fit a break, so someone built a room for it.

A chat app doesn't fix the actual problem. The fix is agents that need fewer check-ins mid-run, not a better way to pass time during them. If a fourth version of this shows up in the next few months, that's the tell that the industry is optimizing the wait instead of shortening it.
