Worktree creation now fails outright on daemons missing one RPC method, and personality presets are gone, cut from two down to zero.
Why now: Both changes surfaced in OpenAI's Codex repository together, marking the moment voice, worktrees, and personas all shifted at once.
Codex turned on voice conversations and git worktrees by default, moving both out of its experimental menu, per the Codex pull request that enabled both features. The terminal interface turns voice on without a flag, and realtime_conversation now carries a stable label rather than an experimental one.
That matters most for anyone running Codex against an older, pinned app-server daemon. If the daemon lacks the thread/backgroundTerminals/list call, worktree creation and the /cd command stop working entirely. The fix is upgrading the daemon, not toggling a setting.
Codex also retired its Friendly and Pragmatic personality presets. It stopped emitting the <personality_spec> tag and no longer defaults to Pragmatic when nothing's set, according to the pull request that retired Codex's personality presets. Generated presets now report supports_personality as false.
Most tools in this category add more persona options, more tone sliders, more ways to sound different. Codex went from two named personalities to zero. Neither pull request says whether that's permanent or a placeholder for something else.
