Claude built the kits inside Claude Science, optimizing 30-plus models in under four weeks, unmaintained by Anthropic.
Why now: Anthropic disclosed both the repo and the Adaptyv Bio sponsorship on Sept. 18, 2026.
Anthropic open-sourced 36 inference optimization kits for protein and genomics models on GitHub, covering AlphaFold 3, Boltz-2, OpenFold3, ColabFold, ESM C and RFdiffusion3. For anyone running these six models, that means faster inference. The kits promise about 4x average speedup and let predictions of systems over 10,000 tokens run on a single GPU node, Anthropic says.
Claude did the optimization work inside Claude Science, tuning more than 30 models in under four weeks. Each kit pairs a stock upstream version of a model with a separate optimization package, so the original code stays untouched. The optimization package runs in four modes: off, exact, fast and big, and every kit shares a runtime built around FlashPairformer and triangle-attention kernels.
The repo is Apache 2.0 licensed and unmaintained, so bug fixes and compatibility work for future model versions fall to whoever adopts a kit.
Separately, Anthropic is co-sponsoring an Adaptyv Bio protein design competition. It's backing the contest with up to $1M in credits and wet lab validation for more than 5,000 designs.

Anthropic ran a de novo binder campaign where Claude researched each target's biology, picked docking sites, installed open-source tools from their public repos itself, and composed 24 workflows with no human making a design decision. Of 1,320 designs synthesized and measured...
elie222/rakazo appeared Aug 13, Apache-2.0, TypeScript, explicitly bring-your-own model and sandbox (tested against Docker, E2B, Daytona) with the Pi runtime underneath and OpenRouter, Codex, Copilot, or SuperGrok device-code sign-in instead of a mandatory API key. Each bot ge...
synthetic-sciences/openscience (Apache 2.0, v1.3.4 on July 11, 2,501 stars since July 3) runs the full loop, literature review through hypothesis, code, experiments on real compute, and written findings, with 290+ skills and 30+ databases including UniProt, PDB, ChEMBL, arXiv,...
Google released Gemma 4 on April 2 with four model variants: E2B, E4B, 26B MoE, and 31B Dense. The license change is the first thing worth noting. Every previous Gemma had restrictions that made lawyers nervous. Gemma 4 is Apache 2.0. Full stop. Use it in any product, any way...
anthropics/jacobian-lens (Apache 2.0, created July 2, 1,394 stars) accompanies "Verbalizable Representations Form a Global Workspace in Language Models" on transformer-circuits.pub. It reads out what an internal activation is disposed to make a model *say* by computing the ave...
This one changed how I'm spending my week. Anthropic's July 24 context-engineering post says they removed over 80% of Claude Code's system prompt for Opus 5 and Fable 5 with no measurable loss on coding evals. They call it "unhobbling" — stripping guardrails and rules that new...
