Insight Partners led the round after Kastle's agents processed over $1.8 billion in lending transactions without replacing any core banking system.
Why now: Insight Partners announced the round on September 17, with Y Combinator, Commerce Ventures and new investor Fifth Wall confirmed in the same release.
Kastle raised $24 million in a Series A on September 17. Insight Partners led it, Y Combinator and Commerce Ventures returned, and Fifth Wall joined the round, per PR Newswire.
$1.8 billion is the figure that explains the check. That's the volume of consumer lending transactions Kastle's agents have already processed, not a demo running against sandbox data. The agents execute high-volume workflows on top of whatever core banking system a bank already runs, and write back to keep the system of record current.
Banks don't rip out core systems. Doing that means new compliance reviews and new integration risk in infrastructure regulators already watch closely, and most institutions decide that trade isn't worth it. Kastle's pitch skips that fight. Agents sit on top, run the workflow, update the existing core.
Four investors just bet on the smaller ask. An AI-native banking platform sounds cleaner in a pitch deck, but it asks a risk-averse buyer to bet the core on a startup. Automating around the core asks for far less, and $1.8 billion in processed transactions is evidence that banks say yes to that ask.
The release doesn't say which lending workflows Kastle automates or how many banks run it. It also doesn't say what happens when a core system changes its API underneath an agent built to depend on that API staying put. An integration layer is only as durable as the thing it sits on.
