The growth agency ran the tool on its own accounts for six months before letting any marketing team sign up for a three-day trial.
Why now: Darkroom announced the acquisition and public beta on September 18.
Darkroom, the growth marketing agency behind more than $5 billion in attributable commerce revenue, bought Shadow and opened it to public beta on September 18, per its announcement. Shadow had been running Darkroom's own client work internally for six months first.
The pitch is a single workspace that syncs a brand's full marketing stack, so people and agents pull from the same context instead of each tool holding its own slice of the truth. Plans start at $120 a month with a three-day trial.
That price point is the part worth sitting with. Most marketing teams already pay per seat for half a dozen platforms, and each one guards its own data. A shared context layer priced under what a single extra seat costs on those suites changes the math for anyone deciding whether to add another agent feature or just replace the plumbing underneath.
What the announcement doesn't say is which platforms Shadow actually connects to, or what happens to a team's existing tool spend once the sync is in place. An agency validating its own product for six months before selling it is a stronger signal than a cold launch, but it's still one company's account of its own build.
Watch whether martech vendors respond by cutting seat prices or by trying to wall off the data Shadow needs to sync in the first place.
