otelyssey ships one plugin marketplace across six AI coding tools

A repo called otelyssey went up on GitHub on September 19. It packages OpenTelemetry agent plugins in the Agent Plugins format and installs the same plugin list across six different AI coding tools from one source.

That matters for anyone building OpenTelemetry tooling for agent workflows: it's a distribution channel that doesn't ask which client your users picked. otelyssey installs through claude plugin marketplace add, copilot plugin marketplace add, codex plugin marketplace add, grok plugin marketplace add, and apm marketplace add. It also ships a Hermes pack URL. Individual plugins add separate install lines for VS Code, Kiro, OpenClaw and Mistral Vibe.

Most plugin marketplaces belong to one vendor. Claude has its plugins, Copilot has its extensions, each with a submission process that vendor controls. otelyssey runs its submission process as the repo itself. Open an issue, the repo validates your plugin.json, and a passing check gets the plugin listed and picked up in nightly release checks. No maintainer manually approves each one.

That's also the catch. Validating a JSON schema and auto-listing on a passing check isn't the same as reading the code. The repo doesn't say whether anyone reviews what a plugin does before it goes live.

Whether this becomes a real distribution layer or a short-lived repo won't come down to plugin count. It comes down to whether other tool builders start targeting the Agent Plugins format on purpose, rather than six clients getting wired up after the fact because one repo did the work.
