Fetching from the wire…

The company renamed its CSM role Forward Deployed Engineer, and that org-chart change ended up harder than deploying the agents.
Why now: SaaStr's account of AssemblyAI's support turnaround was current as of July 27, 2026, grouped alongside three other companies making the same Forward Deployed Engineer bet.
AssemblyAI's support resolution rate went from 10-15% to 75% in 45 days after deploying AI agents, according to SaaStr's reporting. That's not a typo-level improvement, it's a different function.
The timeline is the part builders should sit with. Forty-five days is roughly one sprint cycle, not a multi-quarter transformation initiative with a steering committee. Whatever AssemblyAI shipped, it shipped fast enough that the org had to catch up to it.
And catching up meant renaming the job. AssemblyAI rebranded its customer success manager function to Forward Deployed Engineer, per SaaStr. The company also says recruiting for the role went from two candidates in 2.5 months to fully staffed. Read that as evidence the market recognizes the new job description faster than internal HR processes do, or as evidence that "CSM" had become a role nobody wanted and "Forward Deployed Engineer" doesn't have that baggage yet.
Either way, the harder problem wasn't the agents. It was figuring out what humans do once resolution jumps 5x. SaaStr's related coverage frames this as a pattern across categories, not a one-off: the same Forward Deployed Engineer title shows up as the unit of delivery in multiple unrelated fields, per the same source. Lovable reportedly went a different direction, building its own internally-versioned command center instead of adopting the FDE model. Harvey, by contrast, kept its enterprise playbook mostly intact, with EBRs and legal-background hires still driving 40% of go-to-market, according to the same reporting.
What the source doesn't say: what the AI agents actually do at the point of resolution, or whether 75% resolution means the same thing AssemblyAI meant by resolution before. If you're building support automation, that's the number to press on before you copy the headline.
